1. Remember the 4B’s - Before Breakfast & Before Bed
This is the best time to brush your teeth! You should brush about half an hour after eating, as acidic foods together with brushing may damage your enamel. Therefore, before breakfast and before bed is recommended.

2. Avoid fad dental trends and always check for ADA certification
There is so much information on the internet and on social media about oral health, and it can be hard to tell what’s helpful from what’s harmful to your teeth. Always check products such as toothpaste or whiteners for an ADA certification, meaning that it’s been approved by the American Dental Association. Or if products are approved by a different organization in your country, check for that label. If you’re unsure of something, you can always ask your dentist!

3. Get pains or problems checked out ASAP
Tooth decay is different from cuts and scrapes on your body. While your skin can repair a scrape, enamel does not usually repair itself when a tooth is severely decayed. It will likely get worse, and therefore more expensive! It’s important to get a problem checked out early to minimize damage to oral health.

4. Avoid sticky candies!
We know that sugary foods can be harmful to your teeth, but this is especially true to stickier candies like taffies! These sticky foods are more likely to get trapped and stick to tooth surfaces, causing cavities.

5. Bleeding when flossing probably means you need to floss more!
Lack of flossing can lead to plaque buildup and inflammation of gums. A sign of this inflammation can be bleeding when brushing or flossing. This bleeding likely means that you are brushing or flossing too infrequently.

6. Your mouth is a window to your body
Your mouth is a good predictor of the effects that certain habits have on the rest of your body. If your oral health is suffering from smoking tobacco, alcohol abuse, or unhealthy eating habits, it’s likely that the rest of your body is suffering too.

7. Grinding your teeth or clenching can wear teeth away
If you grind or clench due to stress or habit, it may be time to get a night guard made! Excessive grinding or clenching can cause the top surface of teeth to wear away. This is known as attrition, and over time, it can expose sensitive parts of your teeth and cause complications that will need dental restoration and treatment.

8. Keep up with your cleanings Item
Your toothbrush and floss cannot reach into gum pockets as well as dental instruments can. It’s therefore important to get your cleanings done every 6 months to maintain your oral health. These biannual visits also give the dentist an opportunity to check on the health of your teeth!

9. Drink coffee or wine through a straw
Description goes hereCoffee and wine contain particles known as tannins that stick to teeth and cause staining and darkening. If you can’t avoid these drinks, it might be a good idea to use a straw to minimize staining to front surfaces of teeth.

10. Don’t forget your tongue!
Your tongue, like your teeth, can attract plaque and bacteria and cause bad breath. Remember to gently brush your tongue when you’re brushing your teeth!
